june reflections

One of my favorite authors/content creators, Emily P. Freeman, sends out monthly emails with thought-provoking questions at the end of each month. Which are always something I look forward to. The reflection, the pausing, the revelations that often come.

Here are this month's questions:

  • When was a moment of delight in June?
  • What was your favorite photo you took in June?
  • What will you try in July?

A moment of delight in June:

There were a few moments of delight in June, like a solo drive through town on a Sunday afternoon, getting dressed up and going to a wedding for one of my good friends, picking up donuts on National Donut Day before dinner at my mom and dad's that night, and a trip to Barnes and Noble with my best friend and her daughters because I was going stir crazy at home with a headache and needed out.

But, perhaps my favorite, was road tripping with one of my best friends and her daughters over the last week. It was watching the sunset as we drove into the night, singing along to Taylor Swift songs, laughing and smiling a lot bigger than I have in some time and just watching the childlike wonder and awe from the little girls in the backseat. It was spending time in Eureka and spending time in these stunning locations that we don't get to see and admire every day - Being still long enough to hear the roar of the waves, the laughter of kids running around, the voices of some of my favorite people and the beautiful creation in front of me.

Favorite photo I took in June:

I took this photo just last week in Eureka, CA, at the Sequoia Zoo. We walked across the SkyWalk, and I snapped this picture of my friend's daughter. As I saw her walking, it just represented that childlike innocence and what it means to be a child venturing into the wilderness. It definitely reminded me of something like "Alice in Wonderland" or "The Secret Garden," one of those tales we've all grown up on.

I will try____ in July:

In July, I will work on being more social - going out with friends during the week more, instead of just holing up in my apartment straight after work. I want to remind myself that there's so much more to life than the usual routine of working our lives away.

I'd like to build on the momentum I've gained with my mental health, as well. Pushing myself to get out more, taking a couple walks a week, continuing my medication, getting more sleep and incorporating healthier eating. I want to protect my mental health, now more than ever.

I want to take more solo trips to a few of the places I've had on my list for awhile but haven't made it to just yet.

I'm excited to see where the rest of this summer takes me. It's been a good month, but it's time for a new beginning.

xoxo,

Shelby
